Imperial County EV Charging Station Passenger Vehicle Feasibility Study
Overview
The Imperial County Transportation Commission (ICTC) is leading a countywide study to plan where electric vehicle (EV) charging stations should be located across the county. Today, Imperial County has the fewest EV chargers per person in California. This study aims to identify suitable locations for charging stations (inclusive of requirements to build and electrify the facilities), considering factors such as population density, traffic patterns, and accessibility.
Goals
This study will explore:
• Where current charging stations exist and where additional charging stations are needed most
• How to make charging easy and convenient
• Ways to increase adoption of clean transportation for all residents
Project Objectives
A. Identify the best locations and processes for ICTC investments in EV charging stations
B. Evaluate the potential for implementing EV charging stations strategically across the region.
C. Address the lack of charging stations both in absolute numbers and proportionately to vehicle ownership across the County.
D. Enable broader EV ownership and the enjoyment of associated benefits by all the people of Imperial County.
E. Reduce greenhouse gas emissions from transportation, and the electrification of vehicles is a key pathway to achieve those reductions.
F. Guiding ICTC's future investments for state and Federal funding opportunities.
The framework developed here, and the information gathered, will become a guidebook for the cities in the County to look to for the development of this infrastructure.
