Resumen

Agencies are making improvements to support bicycling and walking in order to create healthier, more active communities. Numerous environmental, health, and economic benefits are attributed to bicycling and walking, especially as substitutes for travel by motor vehicle. Allowing residents to walk and bike enables them to be more physically active in their daily routines and have cleaner air. The project team will work with the ICTC, stakeholders, and the community to assess needs, evaluate existing streets, identify, and prioritize recommendations that encourage people to walk and bike more. The result will be an action plan that supports active transportation, economic development, and equitable mobility options. The ATP will help ICTC be competitive when applying for grants that help implement projects.

PROJECT FEATURES INCLUDED:

  • Recommendations for interregional connections

  • Recommendations for regional and local performance measures

  • Funded and unfunded comprehensive list of projects

  • Increased bicycling and walking help reduce fossil fuel and greenhouse gas emissions and decrease air pollution.

  • In addition to the universal public health benefit, such as improved air quality, bicycling and walking has the potential to positively impact personal health.
