Executive Director Message Regarding COVID-19

I wanted to reach out to ICTC board members and member agencies about our Imperial County Transportation Commission (ICTC) efforts during the ever-changing circumstances we are facing with COVID-19. Our ICTC office will be closed to the public effective Wednesday, March 18, 2020. However, our staff will continue to report to work to carry out their respective duties. We have implemented a protocol to be diligently accessible by phone to assist the public with their transit service and certification needs (Seniors and Disabled Clients) without having them come into our office; and, daily business by phone or email. Additionally, we propose to use telephone conference calls and/or video conference technology to facilitate essential meetings, such as, Social Service Technical Advisory Committee (SSTAC); Technical Advisory Committee (TAC-Public Works/Planning); Management Committee (City/County Managers); Commission meetings and other project related meetings.

ICTC will be flexible as possible to allow employees to respond to their family needs, using Personal Time Off (PTO) or telecommuting if feasible to their work responsibilities. It is important to note that this can change depending on further directives by local, state or federal governments.

ICTC is working with First Transit staff to safeguard the health of IVT Bus riders. As a result, our agency has instituted an enhanced cleaning protocol. We are working diligently to provide updated information to our customers at this time. As requested by Imperial Valley College (IVC) management all IVT bus services (IVT ACCESS, and IVT Fixed Routes) have been cancelled due to the closure of the campus. At this time there are no planned changes to all other bus routes on our regular fixed-route system, IVT ACCESS, IVT Ride or IVT MedTrans.

On our website is our “Enhanced Cleaning Procedures” and actions to limit the spread of COVID-19. Like transit agencies across the country, ICTC will continue evaluating our operations in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

We are currently monitoring ridership levels and will adjust services as needed to respond to demand or to any governmental directives.

In addition, ICTC is taking proactive steps to keep its workforce safe, including:

  • Regularly communicating to employees with the latest information related to the virus and steps they can take to keep themselves, their families and the public safe based directly on recommendations from public health officials.

  • Working closely with our transit contractor to ensure bus operators, maintenance employees and service workers – to provide the latest information and ensure continuity of bus operations, a critical public service.

  • Cancelling travel to conferences.

  • Cancelling non-essential public meetings and events or holding them virtually via conference call or video conference.

There’s no question that our focus in the coming weeks will not be business as usual, however, we are making every effort to ensure we can continue our essential functions and deliver our services, projects and programs to you and the public.

I am available to answer any questions you may have. I can be reached by email or mobile phone, see contact information below.

Thank you and stay safe.
