Regional Climate Action Plan

Climate Action Plan Overview

The Imperial County Transportation Commission (ICTC) is currently developing a Climate Action Plan (CAP), which is a strategy for how the region will work towards reducing its greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with statewide targets. ICTC will ensure this process is collaborative and inclusive by conducting extensive outreach about the strategies that are to be included within the CAP. Stay tuned for more information, including upcoming dates for when the draft CAP will be released and an accompanying community workshop. Additionally, please submit your thoughts throughout the process using the provided comment box below.

Why is ICTC creating a CAP?

California legislation mandates that California reach the following GHG reduction targets:

  • Reduce GHG emissions to 1990 levels by 2020 (a target established by the Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006, also known as Assembly Bill (AB) 32)
  • Reduce GHG emissions to 40 percent below 1990 levels by 2030 (a target established by Senate Bill (SB) 32)

In the short-term, A CAP not only helps the State meet it’s GHG reduction goals but it also makes the region eligible for State funding and streamlines the process to approve projects. In the long term, the CAP will also help achieve multiple community goals such as lowering energy costs, reducing air pollution, supporting local economic development, and improving public health and quality of life.

We want to hear your thoughts and ideas! Community engagement is vital to the climate action planning process. ICTC will continue to take measures to protect the health and safety its residents and business owners during the COVID-19 situation. Community outreach will be facilitated in a manner that puts people first while continuing to keep the community involved.

ICTC and their consultant team will be hosting a virtual community workshop once a draft of the CAP is completed to get your feedback on the draft CAP.
